How to use this tool

  1. Enter foreground and background HEX colours.
  2. Calculate the contrast ratio.
  3. Review normal and large-text results, then adjust colours.

How it works

WCAG compares relative luminance. AA requires at least 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text. AAA requires 7:1 and 4.5:1 respectively. Decisions here use the unrounded ratio.

What to check before using the result

Large text means at least 18-point regular or 14-point bold text. A ratio alone does not certify a whole website’s accessibility. Only solid opaque colours are supported, not gradients, transparency or text over images.
